Eating Disorder Therapy

You feel burdened by a negative body image and feeling out of control with food. You feel awful. There is hope. You can find freedom.
This is not what I signed up for.
When you signed up for your first diet you never envisioned life turning into this. After all you are a hard working go getter. You thrive on setting and accomplishing goals. You saw dieting as a challenge to be conquered. You were hoping to lose some weight to look and feel better. You were raised in a thin obsessed culture that taught you to think if you were thinner, you would be happier, richer, more loved. However, that is not the outcome you achieved. As you struggled to make your body smaller your anxiety increased. Your mind became filled with negative thoughts criticizing what went into your mouth. You showed little grace to yourself and constantly focused on physical flaws like the width of your thighs or the roundness of your belly. You felt controlled by the number on the scale.
My clients want to be set free from obsessing about food and their body. They want to create a relationship with themselves based on genuine acceptance. Many of my clients come to me because they are exhausted from “diet culture” and trying to fit into a mold that doesn’t seem to fit them. They are tired of being told just try harder and do more, They have tried it all and done it all and they are still unhappy with their body.
Therapy may be for you if:
- You’re exhausted from the back and forth between bingeing and restricting.
- Anxiety around food keeps you feeling distressed.
- You don’t know how to manage negative emotions without food; either restricting or bingeing
- The number on the scale determines how you feel on a given day
- You are ready to break up with diet culture once and for all but don’t know how
- Your relationships are taking a hit. You are preoccupied with food, exercise, and talking about dieting and have a hard time focusing on anything else.
- You’re terrified of gaining weight.
Move Forward, Find Freedom
In therapy you can discover what it looks like to trust yourself and your body. My goal for you is to learn to enjoy your life again without overwhelming food and body related anxiety. Imagine what life could look life if you were able to be present in your relationships and work? How much of your life would you gain back without constant thoughts about food? What would It mean to have peace with your body?
In therapy you can begin the process of taking your life back. Therapy begins with a free 15- consultation to determine if you and I would be a good fit in working together. Our first appointment is an introductory 90-minute session where we get to know each other, and I get to hear your story. This allows me to develop a thorough and collaborative treatment plan where we can determine what your specific goals are. I am excited to help clients find joy and freedom with food, their body, and relationships.
